IMDI 2025 Event Report

IMDI 2025, the 23rd National Conference and Technology Exhibition on the medical devices industry, was held on August 29 and 30, 2025 at Anna University, Chennai. The event focused on medical devices, plastic disposables, medical electronic devices, and the wider medical plastics and implants industry under the theme "Changing Scenario and Way Forward".

The conference was organised by Medical Plastics Data Service and MediSource Asia, with the Association of Tamilnadu Medical Device Industry (ATMED) and SPE India Medical Plastics Division as co-organisers. Anna University was the academic partner. The event brought together 235 delegates, 22 exhibitors, and 28 expert speakers.

Conference Highlights

• Inaugural session with Dr. Ezhilan Naganathan, MLA and Member of the State Planning Commission, Tamil Nadu, as Chief Guest, joined by dignitaries from the medical device and healthcare industry, research and academic institutions, CDSCO, BIS, and industry associations.
• Technology Show Exhibition featuring materials, manufacturing and testing equipment, packaging and sterilization equipment, services, medical devices, disposables, and electronic innovations.
• Focused sessions on medical device manufacturing, innovations, quality, regulations, testing, new materials, medical polymers, processing, packaging, medical electronics, electro-mechanical devices and other device technologies.
• Industry-Institute linkage and start-up success sessions supported collaboration between manufacturers, academia and the wider MedTech ecosystem.
• Field visits took participants to the Bureau of Indian Standards office for a workshop on medical device standards and to CIPET for plastics processing and testing technologies with medical plastics applications.

Programme and Exhibition Details

• The expert programme included sessions chaired by Dr. K. Sivakumar, Dr. Manoj Komath and Mr. M. G. Sathyendra.
• Topics included upcoming changes to ISO 10993-1, corrugated medical tubes, hot-runner technologies, sterilization, injection moulding, nanogel-based plasticizer alternatives, medical electronics compliance, deep brain stimulation, fibre-optic sensors, medical textiles, additive tooling and RoHS compliance.
• The exhibitor list included Anna University, ATMED, Bioscience Research Foundation, BRIT, BIS, IIT Madras Chemical & Biosensors Lab, DIC Lifesciences, Biopolymers Systems, KL Associate, Liveon Biolab, MDR Laboratories, Medical Plastics Data Service, PSK Cleanroom Systems, Satol Chemicals, SIDBI, South Indian Bank, SITRA, SPE India Medical Division, SIPCOT and Sterile World Technologies LLP.

Speakers and participants highlighted the role of research, quality standards, biocompatibility, materials science, electronics, medical textiles, and compliance frameworks in strengthening India's position as a global MedTech hub. Feedback from expert speakers, exhibitors and delegates described the event as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking and practical learning.
