Abstract
MedTech Innovations and IP management for SMEs
MedTech, or medical technology,
is every product, service, or solution using medical
technology to improve people's health by preventing,
diagnosing, monitoring, and treating disease. Medical devices
( any instrument, apparatus, implement, machine, appliance,
implant, reagent for in vitro use, software, material or other
similar or related article, ) are essential & integral part of
MedTech domain.
MedTech domain (including
Medical devices), particularly in India, has seen noteworthy
changes and growth in recent years and it is expected to
continue. The Small & Medium Enterprises (SME Units), which
are a kind of backbone of Indian economy, will have to play a
major role in this. There are challenges of market
competition, access to finance, technology, regulatory
provisions, scaling up and others. There are opportunities
also. The challenges can be converted in to opportunities. The
sure shot is considered to be Innovation. The key is to
Continue innovations in technology, products, product design,
packaging, market strategies and an overall management style.
The innovations can be small but
relevant which adds value and increases market share. Such
innovations generate Intellectual Property (IP). And these
innovations (the IP) have to be protected under Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR) like Patents, Design registration,
Trademarks, Copyright, etc. The innovations protected under
IPR will provide SMES a strong leverage to capitalise the
opportunities in the MedTech domain.
The presentation will focus on
Smart three pronged approach of Innovations & IP Management.
These are: Firstly creating an Intellectual Property (IP) by
smart Innovation, Secondly protecting this Innovations (IP)
under IPR and Thirdly the increased market through IPR
protected innovations.
